Eligible customers must purchase a qualifying vehicle for use, not for resale, and must primarily use the vehicle in the U.S. Eligible customers must have a modified adjusted gross income (AGI) that does not exceed:
- $300,000 for married couples filing jointly - $225,000 for heads of households
- $150,000 for all other filers
Customers may use the modified AGI from the current year of delivery of the vehicle or the year before, whichever is less. If the modified AGI is below the threshold in one of the two years, the credit may be claimed.
The credit is nonrefundable and cannot be applied to future tax years. Qualifying vehicles must:
- Have a battery capacity of at least 7 kilowatt hours
- Have a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds
- Be made by a qualified manufacturer.
Note that fuel cell vehicles do not need to be made by a qualified manufacturer to be eligible.
The vehicle must undergo final assembly in North America.
The vehicle's manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) cannot exceed:
- $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks
- $55,000 for other vehicles $7,500 Federal Tax Credit subject to approval and not all customers will qualify. If customer chooses to receive the credit at the time of purchase, the $7,500 credit will be applied towards the down payment.
Purchases of a qualified, new EV may qualify for a purchase credit of up to $7,500, which may be applied at the point-of-sale at participating dealerships. Available only to qualified U.S. taxpayers. To apply the purchase credit at the point-of-sale, you must transfer the entirety of your allowable purchase credit to the dealership and complete additional documentation that has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service. Vehicle eligibility does not guarantee taxpayer eligibility, which requires your adjusted gross income to be below certain income thresholds.
