Interested in upgrading to a new electric car and want to learn more about EV charging stations and the type of charge ports that are available? We’re here to help! At one of our car dealerships near Boston, we can review which charge ports are compatible with your vehicle.
Currently, there are two types of ports that public EV chargers are compatible with: the Traditional Combined Charging System port (CCS) and the Tesla North American Charging Standard port (NACS). Knowing which port your vehicle has is important to know what kind of charger can be plugged into your vehicle.

Up until now, most auto manufacturers have a standard CCS port on their EVs, and it requires an adapter to be able to charge at an NACS EV charging station.
However, the network of NACS chargers is more expansive, giving EV owners more options when choosing a location to charge their vehicle. For this reason, many automakers are choosing to adopt the NACS port as a standard addition to their EV lineups starting as early as 2024. This means most of the electric vehicles on the road will be able to easily access NACS fast chargers while on the go.
And if you come across a CCS charging station, a simple adapter will make it possible to charge your vehicle from that location as well. This standardization means that EVs will offer more convenience than ever before and help reduce range anxiety when drivers are planning long road trips.
Learn everything you need to know about electric car charging and CCS vs. NACS, then stop by one of our Herb Chambers dealerships to browse our EVs for sale. We’ll show you how our upcoming electric cars are compatible with most public EV charging stations across the country.Â
What Are the EV Charging Standards?
Most EVs will have one of two ports available for EV charging: CCS or NACS. Up until now, most vehicles have had CCS ports with the ability to use NACS with the help of an adapter. To make charging an EV even simpler, however, many automotive brands are switching to NACS, and providing an adapter that makes CCS still accessible. That means those who buy an electric Jeep, Hyundai, Kia or another brand can reliably charge at thousands of public EV charging stations across the country.
Does My EV Support CCS or NACS?
Starting in 2024, many auto manufacturers are going to support the NACS charging standards with an adapter for CCS to make it even more convenient to switch to an electric vehicle.
The timeline for the different brands includes:1

EVs Equipped with CCS & NACS for Sale in Massachusetts
When an automaker such as Ford or Toyota fully adopts NACS, it doesn’t mean drivers are losing access to the network of CCS public charging stations. Adapters make it easy for an NACS-equipped EV to charge at a CCS location. This means that regardless of if a public EV charger supports NACS or CCS, you’ll be able to plug in and charge your battery with no issue.
Plug-In Hybrid & EV Charging
Plug-in hybrid models can benefit from the change to NACS as well! Since PHEVs offer a battery that can provide electric-only driving, using public EV chargers is a great way to save on fuel while out on the road. When you buy a new PHEV from one of our Massachusetts car dealerships, you can access an extensive network of public EV chargers thanks to the NACS port on these models. Â
EV Charging Information
Starting in 2024, many electric vehicles will offer the ability to charge with both CCS and NACS charging standards through the use of ports and adapters. If you buy a pre-owned EV from one of our car dealerships that has a CCS port, you can still get the NACS adapter to make charging at either EV charging station simple!
