At Herb Chambers, we know changes with EV incentive programs can raise questions, and that’s why we’re here to help. Whether you want to maximize federal tax credits in time, take advantage of EV rebates as a Massachusetts resident, or simply explore the lasting benefits of driving electric, our team will walk you through every step. We’re proud to offer a wide range of electric and hybrid vehicles—from efficient daily commuters to luxurious long-range options—so you can feel confident that you’ll find the right fit for your lifestyle and budget.

Recently, the “Big Beautiful Bill” introduced important changes to clean-energy incentives, including the timeline for federal electric vehicle (EV) tax credits. Originally expected to run until 2032, these credits will now expire much earlier—on September 30, 2025. That means, for a limited time, qualifying buyers can still receive up to $7,500 off a new EV or $4,000 off a qualifying used EV before the program ends (Forbes; AAA).

Although the federal incentives are ending sooner than expected, Massachusetts drivers have extra support to look forward to. The state’s MOR-EV rebate program continues to provide meaningful savings on both new and pre-owned EVs. Eligible new vehicles may qualify for up to $6,000 in rebates, while qualifying pre-owned EVs can receive up to $3,500, with additional bonuses available for income-qualified residents or when trading in a gas-powered vehicle (Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources).

Of course, rebates and tax credits aren’t the only reason EVs make sense. Even without incentives, they continue to deliver long-term financial value. A 2024 study from Coltura found that EV drivers save about $1,100 annually on fuel, with those savings climbing to $1,620 per year when lower maintenance costs are factored in. Consumer Reports also confirm that powering an EV can cost about 60% less than fueling a gas car, and maintenance expenses are roughly half as much. Building on that, research from Argonne National Laboratory shows that EV owners can save up to $14,000 in fuel costs over 15 years, underscoring that EVs are a cost-effective choice well beyond short-term credits.

Financial savings are only part of the story, though. Many drivers find that EV ownership enhances their everyday driving experience. With fewer service visits, smoother and quieter rides, and cutting-edge technology, EVs bring daily convenience along with long-term value. And for those thinking about their environmental impact, the benefits are just as compelling: Yale Climate Connections reports that EVs reduce carbon emissions by nearly two-thirds compared to gasoline vehicles, making them a powerful step toward a cleaner future.

As federal tax credits sunset, the future of EVs remains bright, especially here in Massachusetts, where state programs like MOR-EV continue to support drivers. With lasting cost savings, advanced technology, and meaningful environmental benefits, EVs remain one of the most rewarding choices on the road today.
