For over 90 years, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular has been a cherished tradition, delighting Bostonians and visitors alike with a grand celebration of music and fireworks. This year, Herb Chambers is honored to be the proud presenting sponsor of this iconic event. As a Navy veteran who found his purpose in life through service, Herb Chambers feels a special connection to this celebration of American heritage and community spirit.

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular will take place along the scenic Charles River, at the DCR Hatch Shell, located at 47 David G. Mugar Way, Boston, MA 02108. Nestled on the Charles River Esplanade between the Longfellow and Massachusetts Avenue Bridges, this venue offers stunning views of the fireworks from both the Boston and Cambridge sides of the river. Join us and special guests The Mavericks and Kelli O’Hara, along with beloved favorites from the Boston Pops, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, and spectacular fireworks over the Charles River. The concert starts at 8 PM, followed by fireworks at 10:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public, with admittance on a first-come, first-served basis.

The story of this beloved tradition dates back to the vision of Arthur Fiedler, a violist in the Boston Symphony, who believed that great symphonic music should be accessible to everyone. Inspired by the availability of literature in public libraries and art in museums, Fiedler set about raising funds to bring his idea to life. On July 4, 1929, his dream became a reality with the first free Esplanade Concert, performed at the specially constructed acoustic shell along the banks of the Charles River. The orchestra, comprising half the musicians of the Boston Symphony, attracted more than 208,000 people that first season, solidifying Fiedler’s vision and leading to his appointment as conductor of the Boston Pops for five decades.

In 1974, the tradition was revitalized by businessman David Mugar, a longtime friend of Fiedler. Mugar added fireworks and cannons to the grand finale, creating a spectacle that reached its zenith during the 1976 bicentennial celebration, which drew over 400,000 people and set a record for the largest audience in orchestral concert history. Mugar's leadership and funding continued until 2016, when he passed the baton to the Boston Pops.

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular has since evolved, with the Pops self-producing the event starting in 2017. This year, under the sponsorship of Herb Chambers, the tradition continues with even more excitement and grandeur.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music, celebration, and community. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is more than just a concert; it's a testament to the enduring spirit of Boston and its love for the arts. We look forward to celebrating with you at the DCR Hatch Shell for a night that promises to be as memorable as it is magnificent.
