5 Tips to Make Your Holiday Drive Safer

The holidays are the busiest travel time of the year and according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, 91 percent of all long-distance travelers will rely on their personal vehicle to get them to grandmother's house (or wherever they may be headed). Unfortunately, the winter season is also the most dangerous time of year for road conditions. Keep that in mind before you head over the river or through the woods this season, and make sure to apply these five winter driving tips.

2016 Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 is five years old, which means it has caught up to its personality. Owning a Fiat 500 is like having a five-year-old boy (or tomboy) at his cutest and most fun. After fun, the adjective that’s probably used most to describe this itty-bitty Italian car is quirky, but we don’t see that. It works, on its small scale, in both looks and performance. There’s big character packed in its small body, and there’s no mistaking it for anything else. While it gets an EPA-estimated 34 miles per gallon combined. What’s quirky about…

2016 Nissan Juke

The subcompact Nissan Juke is a sporty small car that tells people you stand out from the crowd. It’s an outsider among small crossovers, with different priorities; in other words quirky. It was 2014 Car of the Year in Latvia, how’s that for quirky?

The Juke is a genre-bender. Nissan calls it a bold urban sport cross. It does mix city crossover with adventure, performance, and out-there design. The cabin is small and the ride stiff, like a sports car.

2016 Cadillac CT6

CT6 is the latest flag-carrier for Cadillac, an all-new car conceived, like other recent Cadillac four-doors, to challenge the Teutonic trio-Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz-that dominates the luxury sedan market.

It is not unreasonable to say that two earlier offerings, CTS and ATS, measure up to that objective quite well. And the CT6 does the same-but more so. Although it rolls onto the scene as the biggest of current Caddy sedans, it is in no way reminiscent of the opulent behemoths of the brand’s glory days in the 1950s and ’60s.

2016 Ford Explorer

The 2016 Ford Explorer is the 25th anniversary model. How time flies. We remember when the Explorer was a newborn. It was 174 inches long and weighed 3800 pounds. Today it’s 24 inches longer and 620 pounds heavier. In the beginning, its V6 had 155 horsepower and got 17 mpg; today it has nearly twice as much horsepower and gets 20 mpg. Then it had a 5-speed manual, now a 6-speed automatic. Then it was rear-wheel drive, now it is front-wheel drive. There’s no comparison, safety-wise.

2016 Honda Civic

The all-new 2016 Honda Civic represents a comeback, having been driven into the ditch of dullness previously, with cheap interiors, boring design, and sappy performance. The new Civic is larger, nicer, more sophisticated. The Touring model feels like a premium car disguised as an economy car.
